Personal Income by Major Source and Earnings by Industry, 1969-2010 - The data plays a widespread and pivotal role in state, regional and local area economic forecasting, policy analysis and planning. Twenty states impose revenue or spending statutory limits based on the BEA state income data. In FY 2009 alone, over $300 billion in Federal funds were distributed to states based upon BEA's regional income statistics. This data series is the cornerstone of the regional personal income accounts compiled by BEA. The most recent detailed explanation and description of the sources, methods, concepts and definitions used by BEA to prepare the regional personal income estimates are contained in an article appearing in the May 2010 issue of the Survey of Current Business entitled Comprehensive Revision of Local Area Personal Income by David G. Lenze. By clicking on this title you may directly access this article in PDF format, or it may be found by perusing the BEA Regional Articles Page. Directions
